House E on the Livingetc house tours – Inner city eco house
A stylish and sustainable family home designed by owner and ex-livingetc style director Harriet Patterson.
This home shows an active living space, open out horizontally across the floor of the house and garden. The garden continuing the visual flow of the ground floor theme, as a further sequence of discrete interlinked spaces. Perfectly functioning as an additional room when the weather is good.
The house gives a feeling of calm and tranquillity with a palette of oak, linen and soft greys with perfectly placed plants repeated throughout the house.
A few of the things I loved most about this house were:
- The colour palette as mentioned above.
- Nursery – Beautifully white washed walls with a mural by Ed Boxall quoting from Art in Nature by Tove Jansson ‘I want to show you cities and landscapes and teach you how to look at things in new ways and how to get along in places you don’t already know inside out’.
- The staircase – An oak spiral staircase and glazed light well with statement lighting.
- Eco friendly – Eco features are linked to smart technology, with each rooms heating, lights and sound controlled by an ipad/iphone. Choosing furniture that shows the same eco values they believe in and opting for a bio-fuel fireplace that comes into its own in winter, cleverly concealed by a row of plant pots.
